Cleanliness, Fresh Smells & Money

Since I started working at my new branch almost a year ago, I've noticed that most of the patrons at this branch are clean and relatively pleasant. I've also noticed that most of the patrons are willing, nay eager, to pay their overdue fines IMMEDIATELY RIGHT NOW THIS VERY MINUTE never mind that this computer doesn't have a cash register attached and there is a line 10 deep behind them.

Interestingly enough, with the new upper class clientele, I have also noticed that those who carry the most status symbols (Prada bag, Coach accessories, etc.) will give the most grief over 25 cents that I have ever seen. Lady, that quarter won't even pay for the buckle on your Cole Haan sandals.

Anthropology experiment. I has it.

seems to me that's the reason why they have all that "nice" stuff; their penny-pinching ways...

Hi, I have been surfing blogs, looking for fellow library folks, and your's is the first one I have come upon. I used to live in St Pete, but now we live in the Pacific NW. I work for the 3rd largest library system in Washington state, am a children's liaison, been doing storytimes since 1982.
Hope you will visit my blog sometime - I pretty much stick to books and movies.

Hi! I tried to leave a comment on your blog the other day, but it doesn't look like it was accepted. I used to live in St Pete, my father was retired Air Force and we settled there. He taught at Pinellas Jr High, and I graduated from Northeast.
I work for the third largest library system in Washington State, have been at the Stanwood library since 78, and doing storytimes since 82.
Enjoyed your blog, hope to hear from you

Ah, the joys of library fines. I'm a high school librarian and getting my students to pay even the smallest of fines is worse than pulling teeth. But, wow, to have patrons who want to pay fines?! Extraordinary! LoL

Love your blog btw, glad I stumbled across it!
